Important Notice: New Federal CDL/CLP Regulation for Non-Immigrant License Holders
Effective March 16, 2026, a new federal regulation (49 CFR 383.73(f)(3)(ii)) prohibits states from issuing, renewing, or reinstating a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) for non-immigrant holders without proof of lawful immigration status.
As a result, the Miami-Dade Clerk of the Court and Comptroller can no longer reinstate suspended driver’s license for non-immigrant CDL/CLP holders. These drivers must contact their local tax collector’s office directly to complete the reinstatement process.
